Hair transplant cost in India: what you actually pay for
Price, grafts, techniques — and the part nobody explains: why two clinics quote wildly different figures for the same graft count, and which of them is right.

How much does a hair transplant cost in India?
The average hair transplant cost in India ranges between ₹50,000 and ₹3,50,000 — depending on the number of grafts required, the technique used, the surgeon's expertise, the clinic's infrastructure and the complexity of the case.
But cost is not simply calculated by the number of grafts. A successful restoration requires detailed planning, donor area evaluation, hairline design, careful graft handling, correct implantation technique, and long-term preservation of the hair you still have.
0% EMI is available at Alloroots, subject to lender approval. All figures on this page are estimates, not quotations — your exact cost is confirmed only after an in-person assessment.
Average hair transplant cost in India
Cost scales with how much coverage you need. These are the five requirements we see most often.
| Requirement | Approx. grafts | Estimated cost |
|---|---|---|
| Mild hairline correction | 800 – 1,200 | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |
| Front hairline restoration | 1,500 – 2,200 | ₹80,000 – ₹1,80,000 |
| Moderate hair loss | 2,500 – 3,200 | ₹1,20,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
| Advanced baldness | 3,500 – 5,000+ | ₹1,80,000 – ₹3,50,000+ |
| Beard / eyebrow transplant | 500 – 2,000 | ₹40,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
The exact cost can only be estimated after evaluating your hair loss pattern, donor area availability and desired outcome.
Restoring a specific zone has its own pricing logic — see hairline reconstruction, crown area transplant, beard and moustache reconstruction and eyebrow transplantation.
Paying for it
A hair transplant is a significant one-off cost, and it does not have to be paid as one. 0% EMI is available on procedures at Alloroots, subject to lender approval and eligibility. See EMI options →
It is more than just grafts
Most people search for this:
"What is the cost of a 3,000 graft hair transplant?"
The more important question is this:
"What quality of result am I getting for those 3,000 grafts?"
A hair transplant is not like buying a product, where a higher quantity means a better outcome. Two clinics can quote completely different prices for the same number of grafts, because the final result depends on far more than the count:
- Who performs the surgery
- How the hairline is designed
- How grafts are extracted
- How carefully grafts are handled
- Implantation angle and direction
- Density planning
- Donor area preservation
- Long-term hair loss management
A poorly planned transplant with 4,000 grafts can look less natural than a carefully planned transplant using 2,500.
Hair transplant cost per graft in India
Most clinics price on a per-graft basis. The rate depends primarily on technique, because techniques differ enormously in how labour-intensive they are.
| Technique | Approx. cost per graft |
|---|---|
| FUT hair transplant | ₹25 – ₹50 / graft |
| FUE hair transplant | ₹40 – ₹100 / graft |
| DHI hair transplant | ₹60 – ₹150 / graft |
| Advanced Bio-Enhanced FUE | ₹70 – ₹150+ / graft |
Prices vary depending on surgeon expertise, clinic standards, technology and case complexity.
The spread is not arbitrary. FUT removes a strip of donor scalp and dissects it under microscopes — efficient at high graft counts, but it leaves a linear scar. FUE extracts each follicular unit individually, which is slower and leaves no linear scar. Bio-Enhanced FUE adds growth-factor-rich media to protect graft viability during the holding phase. More care per graft costs more per graft.

Other approaches carry their own pricing: non-shave and long-hair FUE for patients who cannot take visible downtime, and body hair transplant where the scalp donor area alone is not sufficient.
What exactly is a hair graft?
The single biggest misunderstanding among patients — and the one clinics exploit.
- 1 graft = 1 hair
- 1 graft = 1–4 hair follicles
A graft is a natural group of hair follicles taken from the donor area — usually the back and sides of the scalp. A single graft may contain one, two, three or four follicles.
For example
A patient receiving 3,000 grafts may actually receive approximately 6,000–9,000 hair follicles, depending on the average follicular unit distribution across their scalp.
This matters commercially, not just biologically. A clinic quoting a price "per hair" rather than "per graft" will look two to three times cheaper than it actually is. Always ask for the per-graft rate, and get the graft count in writing. It is the only number that lets you compare two clinics honestly.
Hair transplant cost by number of grafts
What each graft count typically treats, and what it typically costs.
Minor hairline recession · temple correction · small bald patches · early-stage hair loss
Front hairline restoration · mild to moderate male pattern baldness · improving frontal density
Norwood Grade 3–4 hair loss · significant frontal and mid-scalp thinning · the most commonly requested size
Advanced hair loss · large bald areas · front and crown restoration
Extensive baldness · multiple areas requiring coverage
An important limit
Not every patient is a candidate for 5,000 grafts. The availability of donor hair is the deciding factor — and donor hair is finite and does not regenerate. Anyone promising you a graft count before examining your donor area is selling, not assessing.
For a fuller breakdown of each size, see 1,000 to 5,000 graft costs.
Not sure how many grafts you need?
Nobody can tell you your graft count from a photograph or a phone call. It takes a scalp assessment and a donor density count — thirty minutes, and it costs you nothing.
Why do prices differ between clinics?
Patients ask this constantly:
"Why is one clinic charging ₹70,000 while another charges ₹2 lakh for the same graft count?"
The difference usually comes down to four things.
Surgeon experience
A hair transplant is a cosmetic surgical procedure, where small decisions create lifelong differences. A skilled surgeon focuses on natural hairline creation, correct graft distribution, donor preservation, planning for future hair loss, and overall facial aesthetics — not simply on getting the grafts in.
Hairline design
A natural hairline is not a straight line. Designing one requires understanding age, facial structure, existing hair pattern and the likely future progression of hair loss. An incorrectly designed hairline looks unnatural even if graft survival is perfect. Natural hairline design →
Graft survival
Extracting grafts is only one part of the job. The part that decides your result is: how many extracted follicles actually survive and grow? Survival depends on extraction technique, graft handling time, storage solution, temperature control and implantation method — all of which cost time, and time is what gets cut to cut prices.
Doctor-led vs technician-dependent
Before choosing any clinic, establish who actually performs each stage — hairline design, extraction, implantation, surgical planning. The level of medical supervision significantly influences the outcome, and it is the factor most reliably reflected in the price.
One question settles it
"Will you personally perform the extraction, slit-making and implantation — and will you be in the room for all of it?" A clinic that hesitates has already answered you.
What are you actually paying for?
You are not paying for graft quantity. You are paying for five things — and only one of them happens on the day of surgery.
| You're paying for | Which means |
|---|---|
| Medical assessment | Understanding the cause of your hair loss, the pattern of baldness, the condition of your existing hair, and how far it will progress. See male and female hair loss. |
| Surgical planning | Creating a natural hairline, an appropriate density, and a proper distribution of grafts across the zones that need them most. |
| Precision extraction | Protecting donor density, follicular health, and the possibility of future transplants. A donor area harvested carelessly today closes doors permanently. |
| Implantation expertise | Correct angle, correct direction, natural appearance. This is a geometry problem — and it is where transplants most visibly fail. |
| Long-term strategy | Hair loss is progressive. The goal is to look natural in five and ten years, which is why Minoxidil, Finasteride, PRP or GFC often continue alongside surgery. |

A better way to think about cost
If you take one thing from this guide, take this. The question you ask determines the clinic you end up in.
- How much does 3,000 grafts cost?
- Who is planning my restoration?
- Will it look natural in 5–10 years?
- Is my donor area being protected?
- Am I getting a personalised plan?
A hair transplant is a long-term investment in your appearance and your confidence. Cost is a real factor and it deserves a straight answer — which is why the numbers are on this page rather than hidden behind a phone call. But the quality of the planning, the surgeon's expertise, the handling of your grafts and the naturalness of the result matter more than choosing the cheapest option.
The cheapest transplant is rarely the one that costs least. It is often the one that needs repairing — and repair costs more than doing it properly the first time, if it can be repaired at all.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a hair transplant cost in India?
The average hair transplant cost in India ranges between ₹50,000 and ₹3,50,000, depending on the number of grafts required, the technique used, the surgeon's expertise, the clinic's infrastructure and the complexity of the case. The exact figure can only be estimated after evaluating your hair loss pattern, donor area availability and desired outcome.
What is the cost per graft in India?
It depends on technique. FUT is approximately ₹25–₹50 per graft, FUE ₹40–₹100 per graft, DHI ₹60–₹150 per graft, and Advanced Bio-Enhanced FUE ₹70–₹150+ per graft. Prices vary with surgeon expertise, clinic standards, technology and case complexity.
How many hairs are in one graft?
A graft is a natural group of hair follicles, and may contain 1, 2, 3 or 4 follicles — not one. A patient receiving 3,000 grafts may actually receive approximately 6,000–9,000 hair follicles, depending on their follicular unit distribution. A clinic quoting "per hair" rather than "per graft" is making its price look cheaper than it is.
How much does a 3,000 graft hair transplant cost?
Approximately ₹1,20,000 – ₹2,50,000. A 3,000-graft procedure is generally suitable for Norwood Grade 3–4 hair loss, covering significant frontal and mid-scalp thinning. It is the most commonly requested size in India.
How much does a 5,000 graft hair transplant cost?
Approximately ₹2,00,000 – ₹3,50,000+, suitable for extensive baldness across multiple areas. However, not every patient is a candidate for 5,000 grafts — the availability of donor hair is the deciding factor, and it is assessed in person before any figure is confirmed.
Why is one clinic charging ₹70,000 and another ₹2 lakh for the same grafts?
Four reasons, usually: surgeon experience, hairline design, graft survival (how many extracted follicles actually grow, which depends on handling time, storage and temperature control), and whether the procedure is doctor-led or technician-dependent. A poorly planned transplant with 4,000 grafts can look less natural than a carefully planned one with 2,500.
Is a cheaper hair transplant worth it?
Not necessarily. Your donor area is finite and non-renewable. A poorly planned or over-harvested transplant cannot simply be redone — repair work costs more than the original surgery would have, and some results cannot be fully rescued. The cost that matters is the cost of getting it right once.
Is a hair transplant available on EMI in India?
Yes. Alloroots offers 0% EMI on hair transplant procedures, subject to lender approval and eligibility, so a one-off cost can be spread across monthly instalments. See EMI options →
Does the cost include medication and follow-ups?
Ask for this in writing at every clinic you visit. A quote should state clearly whether pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia, post-operative medication, the aftercare kit, washes and follow-up reviews are included, or billed separately afterwards. A low headline rate with several add-ons at the counter is not a low rate.
