Hair transplant cost per graft in India
Most clinics will not print this number. They tell you cost "depends on several factors" and ask you to call. Here is ours, in public, with the arithmetic shown — so you can walk into any consultation in the country and check whether you are being quoted fairly.

How much does a hair transplant cost per graft in India?
A hair transplant in India costs approximately ₹60 to ₹120 per graft. At that rate, a 1,000-graft procedure works out to roughly ₹60,000–₹1,20,000; a 3,000-graft procedure to ₹1,80,000–₹3,60,000; and a 5,000-graft procedure to ₹3,00,000–₹6,00,000. The position within that band is decided by three things: the technique used (FUE and Bio-Enhanced FUE cost more per graft than FUT), the qualification of the person actually performing the surgery, and the complexity of your case.
One graft is not one hair. A graft is a natural follicular unit containing 1 to 4 hairs, averaging around 2.2. So 3,000 grafts is roughly 6,000–7,000 individual hairs. Any clinic quoting you a price "per hair" is making its rate look two to three times cheaper than it is.
0% EMI is available at Alloroots, subject to lender approval. All figures on this page are indicative, not quotations.
Section 01 · The ledger
What each graft count actually costs
Calculated at ₹60–₹120 per graft. Nothing hidden, nothing rounded in our favour. Find your graft count, read across, and you have your budget range.
A word on the 10,000-graft row. Very few scalps have a donor area that can safely give 10,000 grafts. Anyone promising it in one sitting is either over-harvesting your donor — which is permanent and cannot be undone — or counting hairs rather than grafts. Both should end the consultation.
Section 02 · The unit
1 graft is not 1 hair. This is where people get cheated.
A graft is a follicular unit — the natural bundle your hair grows in. It contains one to four hairs, and across an average Indian scalp it works out to roughly 2.2 hairs per graft.
So when a clinic advertises "₹35 per hair", sounding like a fraction of our ₹60 per graft, run the arithmetic: ₹35 × 2.2 hairs = ₹77 per graft — comfortably above our floor, and that is before the extras get added back at the counter. The unit was switched, not the price.
Always ask for the price per graft, and get the graft count in writing. It is the only number that lets you compare two clinics honestly.
| Graft type | Hairs | Where it's used |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 1 | The hairline's front row — softness |
| Double | 2 | Just behind the hairline |
| Triple | 3 | Mid-scalp — bulk density |
| Quadruple | 4 | Crown and mid-scalp core |
| Grafts | ≈ Hairs | Cost @ ₹60–₹120/graft |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 2,200 | ₹60,000 – ₹1,20,000 |
| 3,000 | 6,600 | ₹1,80,000 – ₹3,60,000 |
| 5,000 | 11,000 | ₹3,00,000 – ₹6,00,000 |
Section 03 · The variables
Why one clinic says ₹60 and another says ₹120
The spread is not arbitrary. Four things move you along the band — and only one of them is really about the surgery itself.
Variable 01
Technique
FUE and Bio-Enhanced FUE sit at the top of the band. They are slower, more labour-intensive per graft and leave no linear scar. FUT sits lower — it delivers high graft counts efficiently, but leaves a donor strip scar.
Variable 02
Who holds the punch
This is the real cost driver, and the one nobody advertises. A surgeon who does all four stages himself can run one patient a day. A clinic where technicians do the extraction and implantation can run three rooms at once — and price accordingly. You are paying for the constraint.
Variable 03
Case complexity
Repairing a failed transplant, working around scarring alopecia, or harvesting body hair to supplement a depleted donor all take longer per graft — and are priced higher.
Variable 04
What's bundled in
Ask what the quote includes: pre-op bloods, anaesthesia, medications, post-op kit, washes and follow-up reviews. A low headline rate with six line-items added at the counter is not a low rate.
Section 04 · Read before you pay a deposit
Five pricing traps in the Indian hair transplant market
We would rather you took this list to a competitor and used it well than had a cheap surgery you spend the next decade regretting. Donor hair is finite. You get one good attempt.
Quoted per hair, not per graft
Makes the rate look 2–3× cheaper. Multiply by ~2.2 to get the real per-graft figure before you compare anything.
The surgeon you met isn't the one operating
You consult with the doctor; technicians perform the extraction and implantation. Ask directly: which stages will you physically perform? Get the answer before the deposit.
The graft count inflates on the day
You are quoted 2,500 and billed for 3,800 "because we found more". Agree the count and the ceiling in writing beforehand.
Mega-session upselling
Bigger sessions mean bigger bills, and over-harvesting a donor area is irreversible. A good surgeon will sometimes talk you down in graft count. That is a signal, not a weakness.
The all-inclusive package that isn't
Medications, PRP sessions, post-op kits and follow-ups appear as extras afterwards. Ask for the itemised total, not the headline.
One question that settles it
"Will you personally perform the extraction, slit-making and implantation — and will you be in the room for all of it?" A clinic that hesitates has answered you.
Section 05 · Beyond the scalp
Beard, moustache, eyebrow and hairline-only costs
Same per-graft arithmetic. Smaller areas, fewer grafts, lower totals — but the precision required at the eyebrow and hairline is higher, which is why these sit at the top of the band.
Non-surgical options are priced separately and per session — see PRP, GFC and scalp micropigmentation.
Section 06 · The global picture
Why patients fly to India for this
A 3,000-graft procedure that costs ₹1.8–3.6 lakh in India is routinely five to ten times that in the United States and the UK — for surgery performed to the same standard, often by surgeons trained at the same institutions.
The saving is not a quality discount. It is a currency and cost-of-practice difference. That is why Alloroots runs a dedicated medical tourism pathway for international patients.
The comparison worth making is not India versus abroad. It is surgeon-performed versus technician-performed — a distinction that exists in every country, at every price point.
| Country | 3,000 grafts (approx.) |
|---|---|
| India (Alloroots) | ₹1.8L – ₹3.6L |
| Turkey | ₹2.5L – ₹5L |
| UAE | ₹5L – ₹10L |
| United Kingdom | ₹8L – ₹15L |
| United States | ₹10L – ₹25L |

Section 08 · Paying for it
₹2.7 lakh is a wall. ₹22,500 a month is a decision.
Cost is the reason most people who want a hair transplant never book one — not doubt about the result. Alloroots offers 0% EMI so the figure becomes a monthly line rather than a lump sum.
- 0% interest on qualifying tenures — you repay the procedure cost, nothing more
- Tenures from 6 to 12 months; longer tenures may carry lender interest
- Approval and eligibility are decided by the lender, not by us
- The EMI figure is quoted before you commit, never after
| Procedure | Total | × 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 grafts | ₹90,000 | ₹7,500 |
| 2,000 grafts | ₹1,80,000 | ₹15,000 |
| 3,000 grafts | ₹2,70,000 | ₹22,500 |

Section 09 · Questions
Cost questions, answered plainly
How much does a hair transplant cost per graft in India?
A hair transplant in India costs approximately ₹60 to ₹120 per graft. Where you fall in that band depends on the technique (FUE and Bio-Enhanced FUE cost more per graft than FUT), the qualification of the person actually performing the surgery, and the complexity of your case. This is an indicative range, not a fixed rate — the final figure is confirmed after a donor-area assessment.
How many hairs are there in 1 graft?
One graft is a natural follicular unit containing 1 to 4 hairs, with an average of about 2.2 hairs per graft. So 1,000 grafts is roughly 2,200 hairs, and 3,000 grafts is roughly 6,600 hairs. Single-hair grafts are placed at the hairline for a soft front edge; multi-hair grafts go behind them to build density.
How much does a 3,000-graft hair transplant cost in India?
At ₹60–₹120 per graft, a 3,000-graft hair transplant costs approximately ₹1,80,000 to ₹3,60,000. This is the most commonly requested size in India and typically covers the frontal zone and mid-scalp (around Norwood 4) in a single sitting of 6–8 hours. It works out to roughly 6,600 hairs.
How much does a 1,000-graft hair transplant cost?
Approximately ₹60,000 to ₹1,20,000 at ₹60–₹120 per graft. A 1,000-graft session generally covers the hairline and temporal peaks — a Norwood 2 pattern — and takes around 4 hours.
How much does a 5,000-graft hair transplant cost?
Approximately ₹3,00,000 to ₹6,00,000. At this size the procedure is usually split across two sittings to protect graft viability and avoid over-harvesting the donor area. Not every scalp has the donor density to support 5,000 grafts — this is assessed before anything is agreed.
Why do some clinics quote so much less?
Usually one of three reasons. They are quoting per hair rather than per graft, which makes the rate look 2–3× cheaper. The surgery is performed by technicians rather than the doctor you consulted. Or the headline price excludes medications, anaesthesia, post-op kits and follow-ups, which are billed separately afterwards. Ask for the per-graft rate, the itemised inclusions, and who physically performs each stage.
Is a hair transplant available on EMI?
Yes. Alloroots offers 0% EMI on hair transplant procedures, with tenures typically from 6 to 12 months. A ₹2,70,000 procedure works out to around ₹22,500 per month over 12 months at 0% interest. EMI is subject to lender approval and eligibility, and longer tenures may carry interest. See hair transplant on EMI.
Does the cost include medication and follow-ups?
Ask for this in writing at every clinic you visit, including ours. A quote should state clearly whether pre-operative bloods, anaesthesia, post-operative medication, the aftercare kit, hair washes and follow-up reviews are included, or billed separately. A low headline rate with six add-ons at the counter is not a low rate.
Is a cheaper hair transplant a false economy?
It can be. Your donor area is finite and non-renewable. A poorly planned or over-harvested transplant cannot simply be redone — repair work costs more than the original surgery would have, and sometimes the result cannot be fully rescued. The cost that matters is the cost of getting it right once.
Does the cost differ between cities in India?
At Alloroots the per-graft rate is the same across all four clinics — New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Chennai and Uttarakhand. Across the wider market, metro clinics in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore often price higher than tier-2 cities, though this reflects overheads rather than surgical outcome.
Get the real number, not a range
Everything on this page is arithmetic. Your actual cost needs a donor-area count, a Norwood grade and a graft plan — which takes thirty minutes with Dr. Alok and costs you nothing. You will leave with a written figure, whether or not you book.
